College GPA Calculator, Credit Weighted 4.0 Scale
Enter each course, its credit hours and your letter grade to get a credit weighted GPA on the US 4.0 scale. Grade points are multiplied by credits, summed, then divided by total credits, which is exactly how your registrar does it. Nothing is stored.
How to use it
- 01. Replace the sample courses with your own, or delete them with the × button.
- 02. Enter credit hours per course. Most US courses are 3 or 4 credits.
- 03. Select the letter grade. Plus and minus steps use the standard 0.3 increments.
- 04. Add a row for every course in the term you are calculating.
- 05. For a cumulative GPA, list every course you have taken rather than one semester.

How is GPA calculated?+
Multiply each course grade point by its credit hours, add those products, then divide by total credit hours. An A in a 4 credit course moves your GPA twice as much as an A in a 2 credit course.
What is a 4.0 scale?+
A equals 4.0, B equals 3.0, C equals 2.0, D equals 1.0 and F equals 0. Most US institutions add plus and minus steps of 0.3, so a B plus is 3.3 and a B minus is 2.7.
What is a good college GPA?+
A 3.0 is the common threshold for good standing and many scholarships, 3.5 is typically cum laude territory, and most graduate programs look for 3.0 or higher.
Does an A plus count as 4.3?+
At some schools, yes, but many cap the scale at 4.0. This calculator treats A plus as 4.0, which is the more common US convention.
How do I raise my GPA fast?+
Prioritize high credit courses, since they carry the most weight. Retaking a failed high credit course usually moves the number more than an A in a 1 credit elective.
Does the calculator save my grades?+
No. It runs in your browser and stores nothing. Refresh the page and the table resets.
